Q: TEMPLATES VS HIRING A CONSULTANT. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

You may find that you need or want help from a consultant. Consultants are knowledgable experts with the ability to develop every aspect of your compliance program from scratch, but hourly rates can range from $100/hr on the low end to $300/hr or more on the upper end. Hiring a consultant also does nothing to help you learn about your process, or the regulations they were created to comply with. In fact, in many ways it makes you reliant on the consultant.

Using templates to start developing your quality management compliance allows you to save money on fees and reduce your dependence on a consultant. Later, if you choose to hire a consultant, instead of drafting from scratch - they will be reviewing your compliance documentation. Feedback you receive will help improve your understanding of the regulations and while reducing billable hours. This way you are paying to be taught instead of paying an expensive contract employee.
